Jan Opsvig

Jan Opsvig is called “Mom” by her four children—the youngest is 19 year-old-Sarah who was born with Down syndrome.

Jan studied science In college  and chose a career as a Dental Hygienist, but since Sarah entered her life she discovered a  passion to for the special needs community.  She has attended numerous conferences regarding health, education and Self-Determination as she has planned for her daughter’s future.

She has presented to local support groups on the topics of Home-Schooling, and how to teach reading. She has also been a tutor.

She believes in life long learning for individuals with special needs, and a future that includes their hopes and dreams.

Her daughter Sarah began working while she was in high school and began dreaming of her future.  This year she navigated the path to Self Determination and in August Sarah was the 8th client at Inland Regional Center to enter into Self Determination.

Due to this valuable and unique experience she became interested in learning to create Person-Centered Plans and has completed the 8 week in depth course with Guidelight Group as well as the State Council on Developmental Disabilities Independent Facilitator training.   Jan is excited to support other individuals to live a Self-Determined Life!
