Results of the Inclusive Education Access Survey

Since publishing the book titled “Who’s the Slow Learner? A Chronicle of Inclusion and Exclusion,” I have been inundated with stories from parents who are still struggling to educate their school districts how to successfully fully include their children with Intellectual disabilities in regular education classrooms. I was curious how prevalent the denial of Inclusion still was in the spring of 2014–24 years after LRE was included in the language of education law. The results are abysmal. More than half of the respondents’ children were not going to be fully included in the 2014-2015 school year. Here are the results:

(Full inclusion, that is being referred to in this survey is where students, regardless of the level or type of disability, are educated in the same general education classrooms with their same-age non-disabled peers with the supports, modifications and accommodations necessary for them to be successful. Resource room is accessed by regular education students, and counts as included, and therapies are necessary, and while they should be pushed into the classroom most are not, so this counts if the student is in the classroom other than for therapies and resource.)
